Chapter Five: The Voice (Awakening of Ancient Heroes, Pt. II)
The second of the ancient heroes is not so much a hero as he is a reformed villain. She is Äännö, the Voice, a criminal forced into an eternity of service in the side of good and law. The lore says that someone wronged, unable to get justice otherwise, can call upon the Voice and give him his or her own voice, remaining mute for the rest of his or her life.
When the price is paid, the Voice will be compelled to deal out vengeance with a shriek capable of causing symptoms ranging from loss of hearing or random bodily organs, to loss of sanity or death. Or all of the above within a longer range of time.
lyrics
-- Äännö --
Verse1:
Äännö huutaa, Äännö kiljuu, Äännö itkee
Äänellänsä valhesanat Äännö kitkee
Laulu murtuneen mielensä mailta
Huutaa mieli, huutaa sielu, huutaa henki
Tehtävänsä vaikeutta huutaa renki
On petturin palkkana pyövelin työ
Verse2:
Tunsi pahan, tunsi vihan, tunsi valheen
Jalkojensa ympärillä tunsi kahleen
Rikollisten riesaksi ruoja revottiin
(Nyt) Äännön kutsun, Äännön loihdin, Äännön manaan
Pistän kaiken luottamuksein Äännön sanaan
Vuossatojen aikana on miel' muuttunut
Chorus:
Äänen annan äänettömälle
Huudahduksein hiljaiselle
Tuomarille ja teloittajalle
On Äännön aika herätä
Loitsun lauon lauluttomalle
Manaukseni mykistyneelle
Tarve on nyt tuomitsijalle
On Äännön aika herätä
Verse3:
Äännö kuulee, Äännö nousee, Äännö herää
Tarvekalut tuomioilleen Äännö kerää
On sanansaattajan käräjille kutsuttu
Chorus
On Äännö herännyt
Translation:
--- The Voice ---
Verse1:
The Voice yells, the Voice shrieks, the Voice cries
With his voice the words of lie the Voice dispels
A song from the lands of her broken mind
Yells the mind, yells the soul, yells the spirit
The difficulty of his task yells the servant
Is a traitor's prize the executioner's job
Verse2:
She knew evil, she knew hate, she knew lies
Around her ankles she felt the chains
To torment criminals the wretch was cursed
(Now) the Voice I call, the Voice I cast, the Voice I conjure
Place all my trust in the Voice's word
So has the mind changed over centuries
Chorus:
I give my voice to the voiceless
My shout to the silent
The judge and the executioner
(It's time for the Voice to awaken)
I shout my spell to the songless
My uttering to the mute
There is a need for a judgment
(It's time for the Voice to awaken)
Verse3:
The Voice hears, the Voice rises, the Voice wakens
Tools of trade for the judgments the Voice gathers
The Herald has been called to court
Chorus
The Voice has awoken
